The submission steps

1. Choose your article type

You pick from a list: original research, systematic review or meta-analysis, narrative review, case report, case series, or letter to the editor. Your choice sets the word limit, the reporting checklist and the fee, so check the table on the author guidelines page first.

2. Upload your manuscript

Put the whole manuscript in one Word file: main text, tables and figures together. One combined file avoids most formatting problems and makes editorial handling faster. Keep author names out of this file, since review is double-blind.

3. Supplementary files (optional)

Anything that supports the paper but does not belong in the main file: datasets, extra images, appendices, a completed reporting checklist. Skip this step if you have none.

4. Author information

For each author you enter first name, last name, email, affiliation, and ORCID iD (optional but recommended). Have these ready before you start, since the portal asks for every author. List authors in the final order; it cannot be changed later without a signed statement from all of them.

5. Corresponding author

Mark which author will handle all contact with the journal during review and after publication. One corresponding author per manuscript.

6. Declarations

As the submitting author, you confirm each of these. Sort out anything missing, like an ethics approval number or a conflict statement, before you submit.

☐ Originality. The manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under consideration anywhere else.
☐ Authorship. Every listed author contributed significantly, has read the final version, and approves submission to DawnMed. Author lists over 12, or with unclear contributions, are justified in the cover letter.
☐ Ethical approval. Where applicable, ethics approval was obtained for studies involving humans or animals, and informed consent was acquired.
☐ Conflict of interest. All authors have disclosed any potential conflicts related to this work.
☐ Funding. Any funding or financial support is stated in the manuscript.
☐ Data integrity. The data are accurate and have not been manipulated or fabricated.
☐ Use of AI. Any AI-assisted tools are disclosed in the manuscript and cover letter, and the authors take full responsibility for the content.
☐ APC agreement. You understand the article processing charge that applies on acceptance, and have read the waiver and discount policy.
☐ Licence to publish. On acceptance, the article is published open access under CC BY 4.0: free to read and share with proper attribution.

7. Review your submission

The portal shows everything back to you on one screen. Check the article type, the files, the author list and order, and the declarations before you send.

8. Submit

Send it to the journal. You will get a confirmation and a submission reference.

9. After you submit

You can track your manuscript's status from your author account at any time. We aim to send a first editorial decision in about a week.
